“Original and Remake” film series at KOKI

As part of the collaboration between the Hollywood Memories project and KOKI, the “Original and Remake” film series continues this June 23, featuring two versions of True Grit.

True Grit has been brought to the screen twice, first in 1969 and again in 2010, each version reflecting the filmmaking style of its time. The original, directed by Henry Hathaway, stars John Wayne in an Oscar-winning role as Rooster Cogburn and presents a more traditional, heroic Western tone. The 2010 remake, directed by the Coen Brothers and starring Jeff Bridges, offers a grittier, more faithful adaptation of the novel, with a stronger focus on 14-year-old Mattie Ross´s point of view. While both films follow the same basic plot, their differences in tone, character portrayal, and visual style highlight how the Western genre has evolved over time.

Kathleen will give an introduction to the films and the practice of remaking films.

The screenings will be at 5:00 pm and 8:00 p.m., respectively. These films will be screened in English with German subtitles. For more information on ticketing and directions, please visit the KOKI website.
