“Original and Remake” film series at KOKI
As part of the collaboration between the Hollywood Memories project and KOKI, the “Original and Remake” film series continues this June 6, this time featuring two versions of Dune and its sequel.
Two major film adaptations — David Lynch’s 1984 version and Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 remake — offer starkly different interpretations of Herbert’s epic tale of politics, prophecy, and power on the desert planet of Arrakis. Together, these films reflect not only the evolution of cinematic technology but also differing artistic approaches to translating complex science fiction literature into visual storytelling.
Alejandra Bulla and Stefan Dierkes, PhD students of American Studies and Media Studies at LUH, will give an introduction to the films and the practice of remaking films.
The screenings will be at 5:00 pm, 7:45 pm and 10:45, respectively. These films will be screened in English. For more information on ticketing and directions, please visit the KOKI website.
